Foundational Skills: Some Foundational Thoughts ?
I had a chance on Monday to just dump some preliminary questions and thoughts (mostly questions) on paper and share them with a couple of friends.
I like to do this at the beginning of a piece of research. Just dump everything as quickly as I can and without much examination onto paper. Some of it will be useful and some is my internal narrative distracting itself and jumping topics or being premature with conclusions before the parameters of the discussion have really been set.
I see three things from this set of notes:
My internal framework of man being made in the Imago Dei and therefore having two baseline needs/abilities (living in communion and creating) is definitely influencing the thought pattern. At this point I’m unsure if that is a correct outcome of building skills and knowledge - is creativity the highest good? Is it a by product of something else? Is it in fact a skill or tendency that is built from towards something higher like worship?
I need to do some developmental study - which skills develop in what order and how are they shaped by environment, direct instruction etc.? Are there foundations that should or should not be explicitly taught?
I need to do some theological and philosophical reading - what is the “flourishing of the human self”?
Most importantly, I need other people to put in their thoughts. I have a group of friends with whom I will do this in person but I’d love to hear from you readers also.
